  • Jigna Rao has been named the School of Humanities and Social Science Student of the Month for March! Jigna Rao, a 40-year-old sociology major and public health minor at The College of New Jersey, embodies the nontraditional student in every sense of the term.  What her 18-to-22-year-old classmates at this suburban institution might not be aware of, however, is the incredible journey that has led this Southern Indian immigrant to return to school with particular education goals in mind, after an 18-year hiatus. Read more on the Humanities and Social Science website!
  • Congrats to Jessica Scardino (’14) who was just selected to receive a HSS Student Achievement award naming her an Outstanding Student in Sociology. She also attended this year’s American Sociological Association’s (ASA) Honors Program, held in New York this past August. Jessican also worked with Dr. Borland in the TCNJ MUSE (Mentored Undergraduate Student Experience) program this past summer.
  • Congratulations to Manny Alcaraz, TCNJ self-designed anthropology major (and Chemistry major) for his acceptance to Rutgers highly selective MD/Ph.D program in Medical Anthropology. Manny will be Rutgers’ first anthropology Ph.D. student in the MD program and he had to convince a tough audience of doctors that anthropology was a worthwhile area of study! Way to go Manny! His future plans include spending a semester abroad to study in Bolivia, then proceeding to his MD/Ph.D program. He has also been featured on the HSS homepage and the School of Science homepage!
